In addition, this newsletter will cover recent changes in personnel at ZooEasy. Lastly, this edition contains our fixed items such as the Calendar and Tips & Tricks for working with ZooEasy.

Changes in personnel

After working for ZooEasy for several months as a tester of the latest ZooEasy Online version, Wouter Peeters’ project at ZooEasy has come to an end. We wish Wouter the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Several months ago, student Max Hulsker joined the ZooEasy team. As part of his Bachelor’s degree graduation project, Max is conducting research for the ZooEasy Online product. In the section below Max Hulsker is officially introduced.

Introducing

Name: Max Hulsker
Age: 24
Position: Market research graduation project

“I am currently in the 4th year of the course Communication systems Multimedia & Design at the Hanze University Groningen, the Netherlands. In the third year of my course I specialized in the area of Brand & Design management. During this specialization I have learned a lot about branding. I am now able to apply the knowledge I have acquired during my course at ZooEasy.

For my final semester I approached ZooEasy for a graduation project. Currently I am conducting research for ZooEasy with regard to the current market approaches for the ZooEasy Online product. With the findings from this research we would like to improve ZooEasy Online for our current customers and the make ZooEasy Online more known with potential customers. Until now, I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this graduation project for ZooEasy.”

ZooEasy Online Developments

ZooEasy Online is a product specifically developed for animal associations, clubs, herd books and other corporate animal organizations. With ZooEasy Online, associations and clubs can grant multiple users simultaneous access to a central online database of animal data. In this newsletter, we will inform you of the new ZooEasy Online pricing policy and marketing & communication activities surrounding this product.

New ZooEasy Online pricing policy
Starting last February, a new pricing policy has been introduced for ZooEasy Online. The price of the standard package has been reduced to €495 and now contains the modules Animals, Breeding pairs, Management and My account and features a multiple language version. The modules Results, Attachments and Logbook are no longer part of the standard package and are now sold separately. In addition, several scales have been introduced with regard to the various account prices. The goal of this price change is to also make the product accessible for clubs and associations with a limited budget, while not being disadvantageous for existing customers.

Marketing and Communication activities
At the end of January, an informational evening was organized for current and potential ZooEasy Online customers. Approximately 20 customers from different clubs and associations visited this event. During the evening, amongst others, the new pricing policy, an explanation of the new functionality in version 1.6.00, and the planning of future releases were discussed. Visitors also had the opportunity to ask questions and to provide feedback. The associations and clubs present all indicated to be very satisfied with the product.

Feel free to contact us for further information regarding ZooEasy Online or to discuss the possibilities of the product for your club or association.

As a result, it is possible that you received three separate messages from us with regard to the downloading of this update. We would like to point out that this concerns only one update. Our apologies for any convenience this may have caused.

Tips & Tricks

Below you will find several tips and tricks for working with ZooEasy.

Tip 1: Correctly shutting down ZooEasy and/or the computer
More and more often, multiple users make use of the same computer. When ZooEasy is opened by one user, ZooEasy is not automatically closed down when a switch is made to another user. If the computer is subsequently turned off by the second user, this also leads to the closing of ZooEasy in the profile of the first user. ZooEasy is then incorrectly shut down and when opened will display error message 380: “Invalid property value”. In this case, ZooEasy can no longer be opened. Trick 1 below will explain how to solve this problem, but this problem can simply be prevented by logging off users before shutting down the computer.

Tip 2: Frequently create a backup on an external medium
The entering of newborn animals generally requires much precision. After years of entry, a valuable registration of all results is created in this way. Nothing is more unfortunately than if this is lost in a single instance, for example because of a computer crash. Therefore, it is important to frequently create a backup on an external medium. A USB stick is not expensive nowadays and can prevent many problems. All too often a backup is still lost because it has been placed, for instance, in the My documents folder. In case of a computer crash, this folder is usually not spared, also causing the back-up to be lost! The generation of an automatic backup is easy to set up (see trick 2), but please take the time to set up this process.

Trick 1: Solving error message “380: Invalid property value”
When ZooEasy is incorrectly shut down (see tip 1 above) error message 380 can occur. Of course a better solution is preventing the problem, but if the problem has occurred it can be solved as follows:

  • Open the Start Menu
  • Select the ZooEasy version 9 folder
  • Here, select the program Database maintenance
  • The tab General is displayed by default. If this is not the case, firstly click on the first tab.
  • On this tab, click on the Repair Database button
  • Click OK once this process has been completed
  • Click Close
  • Restart ZooEasy and the program can be used again!

Trick 2: Settings to automatically create a back-up
Since version 8 of the program, we offer the option to automatically create a back-up when ZooEasy is closed. In the system settings (to be selected from the File menu), you can set up the automatic creation of 1 or more back-ups on a USB stick or an external hard drive, via the tab Set up Backup. When closing ZooEasy, a backup is then automatically made for you. If you choose to use more than 1 folder, your current backup will not be overwritten but a new backup is stored, until the number of backups specified by you is reached. Only at this point will the first backup be overwritten. Therefore, you will always be able to fall back on the backup that was made of the data with which you opened the program today. Should the program crash today, for example while making the backup, a good backup will still be available! As was also described in tip 2, please take the time to set up this process; It is worth it!
