Introduction

Welcome to the first ZooEasy newsletter of 2008. We have many newsworthy items for you this month, considering the different interesting developments that can be reported from within ZooEasy. First of all, we will introduce you to our marketing & communications employee; Rosemary Landeweerd. In addition, we would like to bring you up to date on the latest developments regarding ZooEasy Online, our project for Dutch petting zoos and the latest version 7.03 of ZooEasy stand alone. Of course you will also find our fixed news items in this newsletter.

Introducing

Name: Rosemary Landeweerd
Age: 25
Position: Marketing & Communications employee, translations

“Almost a year ago I started working at ZooEasy for a graduation project that was part of my study International Business & Management Studies. For this I conducted extensive research into the American market. Following, I completed another marketing project during the summer months for the latest ZooEasy product: ZooEasy Online.

Eventually, increasingly more hours were added to my schedule and I began working for ZooEasy more and more. I now focus on various marketing and communication projects within the company and thoroughly enjoy this. I am also responsible for the English translations. Since I have lived in Australia, the US and Canada for some time, English has become a kind of second mother tongue to me.

I particularly enjoy seeing various aspects from my study in practice at ZooEasy. Especially the setting up of, for example, new promotional campaigns I find very interesting.”

ZooEasy for Dutch petting zoos

Shortly, almost all petting zoos in The Netherlands will be using ZooEasy! Stichting Kinderboerderij Nederland (SKBN – Organization of Petting Zoos The Netherlands) is the overarching organization that represents the majority of petting zoos in the Netherlands. ZooEasy is now developing a customized stand alone version that the organization will use for the registration of all animals at the different SKBN member petting zoos. Upon completion of the project, 250 petting zoos will be using ZooEasy.

ZooEasy Online Developments

At this time ZooEasy Online is taking more and more shape. The prototype has been created and gives a good impression of what the real web application will look like. Also an informational evening has been held with a first group of dog associations and clubs.

At present the pricing policy has been determined as well as the different modules that make up the basic version and those that can be added as additional modules. Also the planning has been slightly adapted and ZooEasy Online will now become available in October 2008.

You can follow the link below to view the ZooEasy online prototype. We would like to point out that this is merely a prototype to give you an indication of the application and that this is not a complete, functioning application.

Tips & Trucs

Installing ZooEasy in the proposed directory
With some frequency problems are reported regarding the installation of the ZooEasy updates. The update is assumed not to be installed. In practise, however, it frequently turns out that the update is installed, but that this is not installed in the same folder as the other ZooEasy programs. By installing ZooEasy in the proposed folder much inconvenience can be avoided. If you choose to install ZooEasy in a different folder, please note that the updates are also stored in this (deviating) folder. When contacting the helpdesk with a question, it is useful to mention that ZooEasy has been installed in a different folder. This can contribute to a faster resolution of the problem.

Searching in ZooEasy
In several situations the performance of the search function can be adjusted. This is applicable for the year for animals, the year for shows and the year for breeding pairs. In which field the search is carried out can be adjusted on the “search” tab in the system settings. As such, the search function can be set up in order for a show, although held in 2008, to be covered by season 2007. (Since, in this case, it concerns animals from 2007.) This way, a different search method can be set also for animals and breeding pairs.

Copying pictures and documents to a proposed location
When making a good back-up it is advisable to let ZooEasy copy the pictures and documents to the proposed location. In case of a computer crash or switching to a new computer with different folder structure, it can occur that the animals that are in the database cannot be opened when the documents and pictures have not been included in the back-up. A document or picture is also stored in the back-up when copying to the proposed location as the back-up is created. When, in this case, a back-up needs to be restored, the pictures and documents are also restored.

Database password of the back-up
Also the back-up is password protected. This password is created to protect the database from improper use. It is correct that you have not created this password yourself, ZooEasy does this. The programme also uses this password to restore the back-up and to restore the data. Therefore, if you wish to view the content of a back-up you can only do this from within ZooEasy. Please note that the restoring of a back-up overwrites the active database. Therefore, even if you merely wish to briefly look back, it is advisable to also create a back-up of the current, active, database and to restore this after you are done looking at the old back-up.
