 Introduction
Welcome to the ZooEasy newsletter of August 2008. At the moment we are in the middle of developing ZooEasy Online. Of course we will inform you of these developments extensively in this newsletter. In addition, we would like to update you on the status of our project for the SKBN - Organisation of Petting Zoos The Netherlands. Moreover, we will discuss ZooEasy version 8 and the options that will become possible with this new version. Also the temporary ZooEasy price reduction campaign will be covered in this newsletter. In our fixed tips and tricks newsletter item, you will once again be able to read up on various handy suggestions for simplifying your use of ZooEasy.
ZooEasy Price Reduction Campaign
From September 1st 2008, prices for the ZooEasy download version will be temporarily reduced to USD 79 / EUR 49 / GBP 39. The action period will run until the beginning of December 2008. With this temporary campaign we hope to convince even more people to start using ZooEasy. Other prices will remain the same.
ZooEasy stand alone version 8
In November, the new version of ZooEasy stand alone: ZooEasy version 8, will be implemented. The developing phase for this has now been completed after which the user testing phase will commence this month. The new functionalities in version 8 will be:
- The search functionality has been expanded with the option to search with wild cards. Hereby it is possible to search for animals with the color ‘white’ but also animals in which the color occurs with the search value ‘*white*’.
- The backups can automatically be created in different folders (for example 5). Hereby you can always read in previously created backups and you will avoid permanently removing data of previous days that is removed by mistake.
- The exporting of lists to Excel has been improved, the data are now exported to a file in a layout equal to the layout in ZooEasy.
- For a contact, a tab has been added on which you can easily retrieve all animals of which the contact is breeder and/or owner.
- For the relationships matrix, the cells that meet a certain minimum and maximum percentage can be marked. This is practical to quickly see the breeding pairs which satisfy certain relationship percentages.
- The show results, breeding pairs and logbook data of an animal can be retrieved from the detail screen of an animal. Hereby you directly have insight into all data of an animal.
- General documents can be recorded in ZooEasy with a new main menu item Documents. Hereby you can save, edit and open, for example, feeding schedules, forms and other hobby related documentation in ZooEasy.
- Network use is possible starting from version 8. Because of this ZooEasy can also be installed on a network disk. Advantage is that you can now open and edit the data of the same administration from multiple working locations.
- It is possible to apply a logbook item for all animals owned in one action. For example, when you have vaccinated all animals, you can now create a logbook item for each animal with just one action.

ZooEasy Online Developments
 The developments of ZooEasy Online are running according to schedule. The design phase has now been completed and in June a start has been made on the construction of the application. In the months August and September the testing phases will take place. As planned, the release of ZooEasy Online will take place on October 1st of this year.
ZooEasy Online is a central online database with multi-user aspect for the registration of, amongst others, animal data, pedigrees, medical information, show results, contacts and breeding pairs. Via internet, use can be made of one-and-the-same database from different locations and with multiple users. The association or club can also grant its members access to non (privacy) sensitive information. The target group for ZooEasy Online is associations, clubs and herdbooks that can grant members authorized access to the register. You can select an administration and click on the “Log in to administration” button directly and click the link English. ZooEasy Online Informational Evenings
The past months different informational evenings have been held for ZooEasy Online. Initially these meetings were organised for Dutch dog associations and clubs. During these informational evenings the prototype was elaborately presented and the possibilities of ZooEasy Online were explained. There was also the possibility for all those present to ask questions and to give feedback for the development of the web application. Of course more informational evenings will be organized in the future, also for other animal types.
ZooEasy for the Organization of Petting Zoos The Netherlands (SKBN)
 Also the project for the SKBN (Organization of Petting Zoos The Netherlands) has received the necessary attention. Now that the customized version of ZooEasy stand alone has been completed this will firstly be implemented at two petting zoos. These petting zoos will test the applicability of the program within their petting zoo. When this is completed, the software package will be implemented at all other 250 petting zoos in September.
Many petting zoos (also those not part of the SKBN organization) have already shown an interest in the ZooEasy and would like to implement the package at their petting zoo as soon as possible.
Tips & Tricks
As in all ZooEasy newsletters, following are several handy tips & tricks for the use of ZooEasy. Searching by birth period
Did you know that with ZooEasy it is very easy to select animals that are born in a certain period?
- Click Animals (For example Dogs or Birds)
- Click Search
- Enter a starting and ending date for the Date of Birth.
- Empty the field Registration number (For example Pedigree number or Ring number)
- Click Execute
Modifying layout
Did you know that you can easily modify the layout of the list of animals, contacts etc?
- Click Animals (For example Dogs or Birds)
- Click Layout
- Select or deselect the fields that you wish to display or not display
- Click on a field and click on the arrows above or below the Default button in order to move the field to the front or to the back
