ZooEasy and the GDPR

ZooEasy and the GDPR

Date: May 24, 2018

GDPR is an abbreviation of General Data Protection Regulation, the new privacy legislation that comes into force as per 25th May, 2018. The GDPR replaces the national privacy laws in the EU.

What is the GDPR?

The GDPR gives you more rights as a citizen in respect of privacy and your personal data. On the other hand, companies and organizations get more obligations and responsibilities with regard to the processing of personal data.

The rights of the citizen

Several rights with regard to (the processing of) personal data are laid down in the GDPR. These rights are:

Right of access: You have the right of access to the personal data that companies process.

Right to object: You are entitled to object to the processing of any personal data.

Right to restriction of processing: You are entitled to request companies to restrict the use of your personal data.

Right to rectification of any personal data: You are entitled to request companies to rectify or to complete incomplete personal data.

Right in case of automated decision-making and profiling: You are entitled to a human approach when decisions are made about you.

Right to data portability: You are entitled to transmit your personal data.

Right to be forgotten: You are entitled to request companies to erase your personal data.

Organizations are obliged to process your request within one month.

The accountability of companies

A far-reaching accountability applies for companies as from 25th May, 2018. This means, among other things, that as a company, you must be able to prove that you have taken the right measures in order to comply with the new regulation. As a company, you must also be able to prove that you have received all necessary consents from data subjects. Furthermore, this can mean that as a company, you must keep records of processing activities.

What are the changes for ZooEasy and its customers?

In the run-up to 25th May, ZooEasy has already drawn up a record of processing activities and is working on a new privacy statement. We will also lay down how we protect our systems and your personal data. At the same time, all ZooEasy administrators must soon accept the terms for processors, that have been drawn up because of the GDPR.

For you as a customer this means that you can rest assured that your personal data is well protected in our systems. Also, we take your rights under the GDPR very seriously. Therefore, we are committed to process any requests from your side as swiftly and correctly as possible.
