We have written about it before; in the spring of 2024, ZooEasy launched a pilot for the KGPS. KGPS stands for the Classic Gelderlander Horse Studbook, the studbook dedicated to the preservation of the Classic Gelderlander Horse. The Classic Gelderlander is a well-behaved and reliable all-rounder, of a type that has been highly valued for centuries. Since 2019, the KGPS has been recognized as the official studbook association of the breed.
The goal of this pilot was to demonstrate that ZooEasy is very suitable as an animal administration system for equine studbooks. And we succeeded! ZooEasy set up the database, arranged the printing of reports and provided a course on how to use the software. Now, the pilot has been completed, and KGPS is using their ZooEasy administration to their full satisfaction. We spoke with Julia Ederveen and Rudi van Lutterveld of the KGPS about how they like ZooEasy. Below they share their experience.
“As KGPS we came across ZooEasy when one of our members mentioned it. We were looking for something else because we were not satisfied with the previous provider of our animal registration software. In 2023 we contacted ZooEasy, only at that time it was not financially feasible for our small studbook club. But in the spring of 2024, ZooEasy contacted us asking if we were interested in running a pilot for our studbook. We were definitely up for that!
The biggest advantage of ZooEasy for us is the fact that we keep control. We have insight into the system ourselves and keep an eye on the data of our studbook. Previously, we always outsourced everything, so it was not always clear to us. That is now very different with the use of ZooEasy. We’re holding the reins, so to speak.
Another advantage of ZooEasy is that the collaboration is very pleasant and cooperative. We could ask lots of questions and nothing was impossible beforehand. During the pilot the guidance was very clear, all possibilities were considered and implemented where possible. ZooEasy also works with a convenient ticket system for submitting questions. We have also already filed a question about the possibility of being able to search the ticket ourselves so that we can read back solutions.
What was most important to us in a database was having our own insight into the population. We also wanted to be able to make our own passports and pedigree certificates. This is all possible with ZooEasy. ZooEasy also allows us to calculate a horse’s bloodline. This allows us to determine which studbook the horse belongs to. This depends on such factors as the percentage of Classic Gelderlander blood and the percentage of Hackney blood. There may be more in the future, but these were the first points of interest to us.
To other studbooks we would like to say: if you want to be in charge of your own studbook, process your own data and make your own passports and accessories, ZooEasy works very well. For us, it works easily and clearly, plus the support is very good and accessible. We are definitely glad we made the switch!”
